Why Can’t I Drive My Motorhome Straight Away?

We get asked this a lot and we totally understand! When you buy a used motorhome or campervan the excitement is real and you’re eager to hit the open road. But before we hand over the keys, there’s some important work that needs to happen behind the scenes to make sure your new adventure starts smoothly.

Here’s Why There’s a Short Wait

When a pre owned motorhome or campervan comes into stock, our team carries out a full initial inspection. We check everything from top to bottom, from sticking drawers to cracked windows and even mechanical details like the cam belt and condition of tyres. This helps us log any work that needs doing.
So why not fix everything straight away? Simple: timing.
If we fit new tyres or carry out an MOT immediately, the vehicle might sit on our forecourt for several weeks. That means you lose valuable time on your MOT and tyre life before you’ve even driven away!

What Happens After You Buy?

Once you’ve chosen your motorhome or campervan, we revisit the inspection and carry out a second, more detailed check. This ensures nothing has been missed and gives us a full picture of what needs attention.
Then we get to work in our on site workshop:

  • ✅ Engine service – This alone can take a full day.
  • ✅ Mechanical repairs – Including brakes, cambelt and water pump replacement, if required.
  • ✅ Habitation work – We check and fix anything inside the living area.
  • ✅ Full habitation service – We test the gas, electrics, water systems, seals and more.

We also run a full “campsite simulation” testing the van on gas, electric and hook up power, just like you’d use it on site. This helps us spot any hidden faults so we can fix them before you collect your motorhome.

We Want You to Drive Away with Confidence

Think of your motorhome as a home on wheels. It needs to be road safe, campsite ready, and fully functional. That’s why we take the time to do it right – so when you pick it up, you can head off on your travels with peace of mind.
