Is 2020 the year you’re going to buy your first used caravan? Maybe you’ve decided you want to escape Staffordshire more this year? A used caravan might just be perfect for you without breaking the bank?
But what should you do if you’re new to the whole caravan world? How do you make sure you’re making a purchase of a used caravan that is right for you and isn’t going to be a waste of your hard earned money?
Luckily the talented team at Cara Motorhomes and Caravans have given their top five tips on how you can find the right used caravan for you.
This is the most important aspect we speak with customers all the time. Getting the right layout is absolutely vital when it comes to selecting the right caravan. Who’s going to be coming on your travels with you? Do you want fixed beds, do you want an island bed? The possibilities are endless but you need to get this pick right!
Before you buy a caravan or plan a holiday, there are certain things you must know about actually towing a caravan. For instance, can I tow a caravan with my licence? How do I work out the towing weight? What additional kit might I need to buy?
Most people buying their first caravan look at a used one under £10,000. But this can have its pitfalls if there is no history! Damp is a hidden evil, you only see it when it’s a major problem. You really should have a look around the market, sometimes spending a little bit more can be beneficial and actually save you in the long-term
It’s always important to make sure you stick to your budget if you’re buying your first home from home. Don’t stretch yourself on a purchase that might not be for you in the long-term.
You can always upgrade if you want to at a later date and so don’t go overboard if you’re making your first buy!
One thing that we offer is a good warranty and this is absolutely vital. It’s so important that a used caravan has at least a 12 month warranty. It’s also good for the customer if the service is done just before the warranty expires so any issues are covered by warranty. We use RAC warranty or MB&G depending on the vehicle and don’t forget we off a standard warranty of three years on a used caravan up to 10 years old, and one year if its over 10 years.
So there you go, buying a used caravan is an absolute fantastic purchase and you’re guaranteed to have some amazing breaks. Especially if you follow this guide! But be warned it’s not always a simple purchase, so take your time and trust the experts.
